Have We Gone SaaS Crazy?
Have We Gone SaaS Crazy?
SaaS or Software as a Service seems to be everywhere these days, doesn't it?
I can see why it's a great business model for both consumers and providers. For the company that develops the SaaS application, they are blessed with a continued revenue stream.
Not only that but software applications that require installations on end-users machines are a nightmare to update and roll out patches and bug fixes.
Also, these software apps can be cracked and are difficult to license. How many cracks and license keys do you see floating around the web for some great products like Microsoft Office and Adobe Fireworks? That's lost revenue to the companies that make them.
SaaS is also great for the customer.
Instead of splashing out huge amounts of money on a software app they can go on a pay-as-you-go scheme, even try it out for 2 weeks before they make a purchase. If the application isn't fitting up to the bill, then they can cancel their subscription and try a different product.
Sounds great, doesn't it? Well, it's especially appealing to start-ups and small-to-medium-sized businesses - that's why a lot of the SaaS applications on the market are targeting these types of companies. Best Software development company is using SAAS to develop different softwares.
Yes, it's great that's why it's become so popular but now it's as if we've gone SaaS crazy...every piece of software you look for on the internet all come with a monthly pricing plan.
If that's not bad enough we've got something called Saas Integrations which allows SaaS products to talk to each other. This is done through an API. Integrations are great in theory but it's starting to lead to a whopping big direct debit bill at the end of the month as we are having to pay for multiple products at the same time. Custom software development uses the facility of Saas system which increases their efficiency.
Let's take a small online manufacturing retail start-up - they are using the SaaS model for just about everything these days, let's break down their monthly subscriptions.
Veeqo Inventory management system - $380 /month
MRPEasy Manufacturing software - $39 / month
Shopify ECommerce -$80 /month
Xero Accountancy package - $30 / month
DropBox - $15 / month
SalesForce CRM - $75 / month
Referral Rocks CRM - $150 / month
Mailchimp - $40 / month
wow, that's around $800 a month
the list goes on and on however. We might need some project management software or some Event Management software to go on top of that.
Whatever happened to the conventional ERP system?..Where everything we needed was in the same system. Inventory, CRM, Accounting, Document Management, Project Management, HR, ECommerce all in one piece of software.
Sure enough, we've moved away from legacy enterprise suites that require consultants and service contracts but maybe the SaaS industry has gone too far with its integrations now and we consumers are just left with a huge monthly bill.
